In response to the ongoing and growing cybersecurity threats to organizations, specifically within higher education, St. John’s University’s Office of Information Technology is implementing a critical change to our email system. While we realize this time of year is very hectic, it is essential to make this change prior to the University closing for Christmas break.

The change affects any user who is not using the Microsoft Outlook app or application to connect to email. For example, if you use the Apple Mail client or other device-specific, non-Microsoft client to connect to email, you will no longer be able to receive emails through these applications.

If you currently access email by clicking on the Outlook icon () from any of your devices, you will not be affected by this change. This change will also not affect email delivery through Microsoft Outlook and access to email via the browser (i.e., https://signon.stjohns.edu).

If you are not accessing email in this manner, please install the Microsoft Outlook app through the App Store or Office 365. Additional information on how to set up your account can be found on our Support Portal: Email Setup.

Please remember to be cautious when opening or responding to emails from users you do not know or recognize. Do not send any personal information, such as phone numbers, usernames, passwords, or social security numbers, via email. Do not click on any unfamiliar links; before entering any credentials online, double-check the website address to validate it is one you know.
