This article will guide you through the setup and usage of the Webex Meet app for iOS.


Signing Into Webex Meet on iOS

Use the following instructions for signing into the Webex Meet for iOS.

  1. Open the Webex Meet app on your iOS device

  2. Tap on the Sign In button (red arrow above).

  3. A window will open. In the email line (red arrow below), enter your St. John’s University Email address and tap Next (blue arrow below).


  4. Webex will automatically find our Webex Instance (sju.webex.com). It will display any associated sites under SELECT THE SITE.

    1. If no sites are listed, check to make sure that the email address you entered is spelled correctly (blue box above).

  5. Tap the site labeled sju.webex.com (red arrow below) 

  6. This will bring up the Okta (signon.stjohns.edu) login window. On the Sign In page, enter your email address and password into the respective boxes (blue box below)

    1. Faculty use the username like smithj@stjohns.edu

    2. Students use the username like firstname.lastnameXX@my.stjohns.edu


  7. Click the blue Sign In button (red arrow above) to sign in to Okta.

  8. If you have successfully signed into Webex Meet, you will see the following on your iOS device.



Starting a Webex Meeting from Webex Meet

The following will assist you in starting a Webex Meeting from within the iOS app.

  1. If not already done, open the Webex Meet app.

  2. To start a meeting, tap the green Start Meeting button (red arrow above).

  3. This will connect you to Webex and you’ll see the following screen:


  4. By default, both the Microphone (1) and Camera (2) will be turned off. To turn either on, tap the corresponding icon.

    1. The first time the camera or microphone is enabled, Webex Meet will ask for permission to use the camera and microphone. Tap Allow enabling this.

  5. To end your Webex Meeting, tap the Red X button (6) on the lower right.


Sharing Content in Webex Meet

Want to share content like documents, draw and annotate, or even share your iPad’s display? Here is how to do that during a meeting.

Screen Sharing


To share your iPad screen tap the Share Content button (red arrow above) and that will open a share menu as shown below.

  1. To share your iPad display, tab the Share Screen button (blue arrow above).

  2. A guide will appear informing you what screen broadcasting will capture.

    1. This will capture everything on the screen including notifications that appear on the device.

  3. Swipe down from the top right of your screen to pull down Control Center as shown below

  4. Tap and Hold the Screen Recording button (red arrow above) to bring up the Screen Recording menu.

    1. If you are missing the Screen Recording option in Control Center use this guide provided by Apple to add it.

  5. Tap the Webex Meet option (red arrow below).


  6. If your microphone is not enabled for the Webex Meeting, make sure you tap the Microphone button (green box above) to enable the microphone during screen share so your participants can hear you.

  7. Tap the Start Broadcast button (blue arrow above) to begin screen sharing.

  8. You can tap twice away from Control Center to dismiss the Screen Recording window and Control Center itself.

  9. You should now see the Screen Share window from earlier with a red dot and a timer counting up indicating Screen Share is active.

  10. You can now go outside of Webex Meet and participants will see your iPad screen.

  11. To stop broadcasting open Webex Meet and hit the Stop Broadcast button (red arrow above)

During Screen Share, ALL aspects of your iPad will be broadcasted to participants to view. This includes incoming notifications, other applications, the camera app, and webpages. Use with caution.



Using the Webex Meet Whiteboard


  1. To share a digital Whiteboard tap the Share Content button and that will open a share menu as shown below.

  2. Tap the Whiteboard button (blue arrow above) to activate the White boarding feature.

  3. This will open the whiteboard canvas as shown above. You can write using your finger, a stylus or an Apple Pencil if supported by your iPad to draw and annotate.

  4. To save whiteboard annotations to the device’s Photos App, tap the 3 Dots (blue arrow below) on the left side of the top bar and tap Save (red arrow below).

  5. To exit Webex Meet Whiteboard, tap the Return Arrow (red arrow below) in the top left of the Whiteboard area.

  6. Webex will ask you if you wish to save the document. If you hit the Yes button and it will save the document to the Photos App before closing the Whiteboard.

Sharing Files - OneDrive


  1. To share files from Microsoft OneDrive tap the Share Content button (red arrow above) and that will open a share menu as shown below.

  2. Tap on the Microsoft OneDrive option (red arrow above) from the list.

  3. This will open up the following Sign in to OneDrive Login Window as shown below.

  4. Type in your St. John’s University email address (blue box above), and tap the Next button (red arrow above).

  5. Type in your St. John’s University email password (blue box below) and then tap the Sign in button (red arrow below).

  6. Webex will now display your files in your OneDrive.


Note: Currently (3/20/20), there is a bug for Webex Meet which does not allow you to connect Microsoft OneDrive or Google Drive for file sharing through Webex Meet. Instructions could not be completed.



Sharing Files - Photos

  1. To share Photos saved on your iOS device tap the Share Content button (red arrow above) and that will open a share menu as shown below.

  2. Tap the Photos button (red arrow above).

    1. If you are asked to provide access to your Photos, tap Allow to allow it access to your photos

  3. You will now see your various photo albums within the Photos app. Tap an album (red arrow below) to open it.

  4. Tap a photo (red arrow below) that you would like to import and share with your Participants

  5. Webex will then load the file in and share it with your participants. You can Stop Sharing by tapping that button (red arrow below) in the top left of the Webex Meet app.

  6. You can Rotate the photo by hitting that button (green box above).

  7. You can Annotate on the photo by hitting that button (blue box above).

    1. Participants can be allowed to Annotate alongside the Host by tapping the 3 Dots (green box below) at the top of the Webex Meet app and then tapping the Allow anyone to annotate button (red arrow below).

    2. Annotations can be saved as a separate image to the Photos app by tapping the 3 Dots (green box above) at the top of the Webex Meet app and then tapping the Save button (blue arrow above).



Participants Viewing, Inviting and Chatting

Here are steps to view, invite and chat with participants in your Webex Meet.

  1. To see the participants who are in your Webex Meeting, tap the Participants button (blue arrow above).

  2. This will bring up the Participants menu and show you a list of all the participants currently in your Webex Meeting.

  3. To invite new participants, tap the Invite button (red arrow below).

  4. Type in the email address(s) of the participant(s) (red box below) you would like to invite. Or tap the + button (blue arrow below) to add participants from your contacts.

  5. Hit the Send button (green arrow above) to send an invite to those participants you’ve entered.

  6. Once more than one participant has joined your Webex Meeting, as the Host, you have the ability to mute participants by tapping the Mute button 

  7. To Chat with a single participant, tap on that participant in the list and a chat window will appear. Type in your message and hit the Return key on the touch screen keyboard to send your message or tap the Send button.

    1. To send a message quickly using an attached or BlueTooth keyboard, type your message and then push both the Option and Return (Enter) keys to send the message without tapping the Send button.

  8. To Chat with ALL participants, tap on the Chat button (blue arrow below) and the chat window will open

  9. Type in your message (red box below) and tap the Send button (blue arrow below).

    1. To send a message quickly using an attached or BlueTooth keyboard, type your message and then push both the Option and Return (Enter) keys to send the message without tapping the Send button.
