Terms of Service
In line with our mission to provide reliable and user-friendly access to the world of information, Information Technology on the Queen's Campus lends laptop computers from D'Angelo Center and Newman Hall to registered Faculty and Students. Our primary goal in lending technology is to support the academic success of our students and faculty. These WIFI enabled devices can be used anywhere on the Queens Campus for up to 5 hours at a time. As these laptops represent a significant investment by the Information Technology, all users must maintain proper supervision and care of the equipment. Users must abide by the Computer Network Use Policy.
Kiosk Operating Hours
Everyday 6 am – 3 am
These hours are subject to changes based on class schedules, University-wide closings, and building closures.
If the D'Angelo Building is closed, the Laptop Kiosk will not be accessible. If Newman Breezeway is closed, the Laptop Kiosk in this area will not be accessible.
General Information
Laptops are for ON QUEENS CAMPUS ONLY and must remain on the Queens Campus premises.
The standard loan period is 5 hours. A shorter loan period will result if Kiosk closes within 5 hours of checkout.
Laptops checked-out AFTER 11 pm are DUE BY 3 am.
Users are fully responsible for the laptop's care and its components during the loan's life.
If a problem occurs while the laptop is in use, please return the device immediately to the Kiosk.
Save files to a removable drive or the cloud (OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.). Upon return, laptops are reimaged, and all files are erased and unrecoverable.
Anti-virus software is on all laptops. Information Technology is not responsible for viruses transferred during use.
Laptop Returns
Secure laptop completely in open and designated Lenovo or MacBook slot. If a user is unable to secure the device in Kiosk, please see an IT staff member. If D'Angelo Center, or the IT Service Center is closed, users are responsible for the laptop until the next business day and may accrue all associated late fees.
NEVER leave a laptop unsecured or unattended.
NEVER return the laptop to the concierge desk.
Upon return, the Kiosk will perform a final check to ensure the laptop is undamaged.
If any damage is detected, the last user will be notified upon its return.
Laptops returned after the closing time will continue to accrue hourly late fees.
*In the event of an emergency or building closure, users are responsible for the laptop until access to the Kiosk is restored. Information Technology can assist in clearing any related fines or blocks.
Fines and Fees
Overdue laptops will charge the user a late fee of $5 per hour, or any portion thereof.
Late fees accrue according to real-time. Do not rely on the laptop clock for the correct time.
Replacement fees for lost, stolen, or damaged laptops: Lenovo: $1026 and MacBook: $1342.
Violations
Violation of these Terms of Service may result in the loss of laptop kiosk privileges. Unpaid fines or replacement fees (for damaged equipment) will result in holds on your financial accounts and academic records. Holds on academic records will prevent students from graduating, registering for classes, and receiving transcripts.
