Microsoft Bitlocker Recovery Error - Student SJU Laptop


St, John’s University does not encrypt student Academic Computing Initiative Laptops. Bitlocker Encryption ONLY occurs on a personal Microsoft account. The account that is used to access the Microsoft Store in Windows 10 or Windows 11. 


For those that are part of the Academic Computing Initiative that are experiencing a Bitlocker prompt visit: https://account.microsoft.com/devices/recoverykey



You will look for the Microsoft Account that is associated with the recovery key listed on the BitLocker Recovery screen on the device. If you are unable to remember what account was used to set up a Windows Store account, a windows system restore can be initiated. Unfortunately in doing so, all data will be lost. The Recovery Key will not be required to complete a System Factory Restore.
