What is Grammarly?

Grammarly is a cloud-based writing tool that helps users proofread and edit their documents. It checks for spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors and offers real-time assistance to improve a content's clarity, cohesiveness, fluency, and vocabulary.

Who receives Grammarly invitations?

Students and faculty have access to Grammarly through the Grammarly app on Sign-On.

Activate Your Account via Sign-On

  1. Login into Sign-On.

  2. Locate and click the Grammarly app to log in.

  3. Your account will be created for you, and you can enjoy using Grammarly.

How to install the Grammarly browser extension

Grammarly offers a browser extension for the following browsers: 

  • Chrome

  • Safari 

  • Firefox

  • Microsoft Edge 

Chrome:

  1. Open Google Chrome and visit the Chrome Store to install the Grammarly browser extension.

  2. Click Add to Chrome to start the download.

Safari:

  1. Click this link to open the Apple App Store and install the Grammarly browser extension.

  2. Click Get > Install to start the download.

  3. When the download is finished, click Open.

Firefox:

  1. Open Firefox and visit the Firefox Add-ons page to install the Grammarly browser extension.

  2. Click Add to Firefox to start the download.

Edge:

  1. Please click this link to add Grammarly's browser extension to Microsoft Edge.

  2. Then, click Get, and then press Add Extension:

  1. After downloading and installing Grammarly for Microsoft Edge, you should be able to use it as you write online.

Note: The Grammarly browser extension works best with the latest stable versions of browsers and operating systems; therefore, we suggest you update your software regularly. Other browsers, such as Opera or Brave, are not currently supported. 

How to install Grammarly for Windows

  1. Click the Windows installer link to download the app. 

  2. Click on the downloaded file and follow the prompts on the screen to complete the installation. Grammarly should then appear in your system tray, located in the lower-right corner of the screen.

  3. Open any app or website and start typing—you should see the floating Grammarly widget—and Grammarly will automatically begin to check your text.

How to install Grammarly for Mac

  1. Click the Mac installer link to download the app. 

  2. Click on the downloaded file and follow the prompts on the screen to complete the installation. Grammarly should appear in the menu at the top of your screen.

  3. Open any app or website and start typing—you should see the floating Grammarly widget—and Grammarly will automatically begin to check your text.
