This guide will walk you through how to embed a file from your Microsoft Teams class into the Rich Content Editor (RCE) in Canvas. The instructions here refer to embedding a PowerPoint presentation into a Canvas Page, but the process should be roughly the same regardless of file type or Canvas location.

How do I get the Embed Code for a file in my Teams class files?

  1. Locate the PowerPoint in your Teams class files.

  2. Hover your mouse over the file name and click the three dots that appear.

  3. Select the “Preview” option.

Note: Some files may not have the Embed option appear in the More Options menu as above - instead you will just see the “embed” icon in the ribbon, as shown in the image below:

  1. Click the “Copy embed code” button at the bottom of your screen, or copy and paste the embed code that appears (please note that in the image below portions of the embed link have been blocked out for security purposes).

How do I insert the embed into the Canvas RCE?

Now that you have the embed code copied in your Clipboard, we can insert the code into the RCE in Canvas.

  1. Find the Page, Discussion Board, Quiz, or Assignment that you wish to use for this embed and go into Edit mode.

  2. Move your cursor to the spot in your text where the embed will be placed. Now clickInsert” and selectEmbed.”

  1. You should now see a small preview of the embedded document in line with your text, such as in the image below. When you are finished editing, click either “Save,” or if ready for students, clickSave and Publish” at the bottom of the screen.
