Need help adding content to your personal folder in Panopto? The article below helps you learn how to add content to your “My Folder” in Panopto, using either the “+ Create” method or the “Drag-and-drop” method.

Using “+ Create”

To create or record a session in My Folder, log into stjohns.hosted.panopto.com. Locate and select My Folder (green arrow below). Next, select the “+ Create” button (yellow circle below).

Select the option appropriate for your use.

  1. Panopto for Windows/Mac: This feature enables you to record a new session using the Panopto application. You will be prompted to download and install Panopto for Windows or Mac. If the Windows Recorder is already installed, you can simply launch it. This will also automatically sign you into the recorder with the credentials you used to log in to the web.

  2. Panopto Capture: This option launches Panopto Capture, which allows a user to easily record audio, video, and entire screens or application windows from directly within their browser, and no download is required.
    .

  3. Upload media: This option will allow you to upload audio files, a single video, or multiple videos (up to 100 at once), that will create new Panopto Sessions.
    .

  4. Webcast: This option will create a URL for you to broadcast live to at a later time.
    .

  5. Scheduled recording: If you have access to schedule automatic recordings using a remote recorder, you can schedule recordings using this option (Law School).
    .

  6. Build a session: This option will allow you to upload multiple videos and PowerPoint files to create a Panopto session
    .

  7. Playlist: Playlists allow videos within your Panopto site to be presented in a single, ordered list even if those videos exist in different folders.
    .

  8. New Folder: This option will create a new folder on the server that you can use to keep videos organized.

(blue star) Please note: If uploading or recording a video, the uploading process may take a few moments to finish, based on the size and amount of files. Please stay on the screen until the uploading process is complete. Once complete, you can close the window. The video sessions must still be processed for playback in Panopto, but once processed you should receive an email notification when the sessions are ready to view or edit. There are certain factors, such as bitrate, aspect ratio, file size, and video length, which can impact the time it takes for the video to process.

Using Drag and Drop

To upload a recording to My Folder from your computer, log into http://stjohns.hosted.panopto.com. Locate and select My Folder (green arrow below).

Next, drag and drop content from File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac) directly into your Panopto My Folder.

A progress bar will be visible in the bottom right. Do not close this window, and stay on this page.

Once the video upload is complete you will see a visible confirmation indicating that you can now close the window (yellow arrow below). You are safe to leave this page.

Your Panopto video will then be processed and published as it normally would.
