The JB Learning LTI is a tool that can be used to connect a Jones & Bartlett Learning online textbook to your Canvas course. In order to utilize this function as a faculty member, you will need a unique Access Code, which is generated by Jones & Bartlett Learning. If you need the contact information for this, please contact the St. John’s IT department.

This LTI can be added to your course via Modules, following the instructions below.

How do I add this LTI to my Canvas Course Modules?

  1. Log in to Canvas as an instructor and open your course. Go to the Modules page in the course navigation menu. You can then choose to either add all of the JB Learning course’s content in one step, or add select modules/chapters at a time.

  2. Click the three dots at the top of the Modules page and select the JB Learning Courses option from the list.

  1. A popup window displays a list of available courses to which St. John’s has access. Use the “Search by Course Name” field to locate your course as needed. The list displayed automatically returns results based on the keywords entered. Click on your course’s name to display its contents. Then use the “Search by Link Name” field to further filter by individual course assets, if needed. You must expand a course items' menu before using this field.

    • NOTE: it is important to only add content from approved titles for your course. Students are unable to access any content outside of your chosen curriculum.

  1. Depending on how much content exists within your chosen course, it may time a moment for all of the course items to display. Contents are organized by the default course structure. At this time you will have the option to either add all contents and their default module structure to your Canvas course in one step (recommended), or add select modules/chapters at a time.

To add all JB Learning course content at once: Expand the course to see all of the course items, then select the checkbox to the left of the course name. ClickContinue.” Please note that if the course is not expanded, you will not be able to select all of the items.

To add select modules/chapters at a time: Expand the course so that you see all of the course items, and choose the respective checkboxes to the left of the modules and/or items to import, then clickContinue.”

  1. You should now be returned to your Canvas course and see all of the imported content deep-linked within their respective modules, which will be named for the JB Learning course’s respective sections/chapters.

    • NOTE: any graded items, such as eBook Quizzes, are automatically placed within a standalone module at the bottom of the course content, which will be labeled “New Content from App.” You may manually move these graded items to other course modules as needed.

  1. If adding select items at a time, repeat the above steps as needed to continue building your course.

    • NOTE: Adding content from a chapter/module from which content was added previously will create a duplicate chapter/module in Canvas to place the items. You may manually move these items to the original course module as needed.
