This quick start guide is designed for students using Microsoft Teams Meetings. Providing instructions on downloading Microsoft Teams, signing into Teams, joining meetings, and creating and sharing class recordings. 


Downloading Teams

On your desktop, sign into singon.stjohns.edu and access the Office 365 tile in My Apps. On the left-hand side of the Microsoft 365 window, locate and click on the Teams icon. Once Teams opens, select the ellipsis (…) on the upper right-hand side. Click on Download the desktop app. You will be prompted to begin the installation.


On your iPhone, access the App Store and type: Microsoft Teams in the search field. Locate and Select Microsoft Teams and click on the download icon. You will be prompted to enter your Apple ID password. Once your download installs, open the Teams app and enter your SJU credentials.


On your Android device, go to the Play Store and type: Microsoft Teams. Select Microsoft Teams and click on Install. You can then open Teams and sign in using your SJU credentials.

Scheduling a Teams Meeting in Canvas

To schedule a Teams meeting with your class, access your Canvas course and select Microsoft Teams meetings from the Course Navigation. Click New Meeting in the top right corner. Add meeting details like Title, Attendees, Date/Time. For further details, on scheduling a Teams meeting in Canvas, click here.



Joining a Teams Meeting in your Canvas Class

To access a Teams Meeting in Canvas, Open your Canvas course and select Microsoft Teams Meetings from the Canvas course navigation. Next, locate your meeting and click on Join to attend. You must choose to open your meeting in your web browser or the Teams application. Finally, you will be asked if you wish to share your microphone and camera. How to create a Teams Meeting in Teams

Open your calendar in Teams. Next, click on +New Meeting. A meeting window will open. Title your meeting, add participants, and select the desired date and time. Then click Save, located on the upper right-hand corner. Participants will receive an email invitation for your Teams meeting, which will be visible on the organizer's calendar. Joining a Teams Meeting in Teams

To Join a Teams meeting in Teams, locate your Teams meeting in the calendar. Click on the meeting and select Join. If you join from the web, your browser will prompt you to share audio and video. Click Allow to enable sharing. Ensure your camera and microphone are toggled on and select Join. For a detailed look at how to join a Teams meeting in Microsoft Teams, click here.



Access Teams Recordings

To access a Teams recording, Open your Teams calendar and select your desired meeting. Directly located under Show meeting info your recording will be visible. For detailed information on how to located your Teams recordings, click here.



Embed Recordings in Canvas

Access your recording from the Teams meeting calendar. Next, located under Show meeting info, click on your recording. On the upper right hand side of the recording widow, select Open in Stream. SharePoint will open. On the right hand side, locate and select Share. A drop down window will appear, click on Embed code. Finally, select Copy embed code. Using Breakout Rooms in Canvas

To access your Teams meeting breakout room. Log into your canvas course and select Microsoft Teams meeting from your course navigation. Locate your meeting and select Join. Your meeting organizer will inform you that your participation will be required in a Breakout room. No physical action is required on your part. Teams will notify you that this transition is taking place and pull you into your Breakout room. Once complete, you will receive notification that you are being placed into the original meeting.
