This article will walk you through how to access a CSV report in Canvas that lists your students' names, their email address, and the name of the Section they’re assigned to, as well as some other identifiable information within Canvas. Please see the screenshot below for an example of the information you receive in the report:

You will be accessing this report from New Analytics inside of your Canvas course. To access New Analytics, you can either enable it in your Course Navigation menu (#1 in image below, please see How do I manage Course Navigation links? [Canvas Support article linked] for assistance) or go to your Course Home Page and click “New Analytics” on the right-hand side of your screen (#2 in image below).

  2. Click on the Reports tab.

  3. Locate “Class Roster” and click Run Report.”

  1. On the pop-up screen that appears, you will have the option to add a Filter. Click Run Report” when ready.

    • The Filter option is useful if your course is cross-listed, as it allows you to identify which Course Section you wish to use. However, the Filter is optional. So if your course is not cross-listed or if you do not want to generate separate reports for each section, you can skip the Filter option.

  1. A new CSV should download in your browser, named “roster [date].” Open the CSV when downloaded, and you should see the list of students in your course.
