A Quick Start Guide for Microsoft Teams Meetings in Canvas

This integration is powered by Microsoft Education LTI, enabling educators to create, manage, and share Teams meetings directly from Canvas. In addition to meeting functionality, the integration provides access to OneDrive and other Microsoft tools, offering a seamless way to share resources and collaborate with students. This guide covers essential tasks such as setting up Teams Meetings, scheduling and joining meetings, recording and embedding lectures, using breakout rooms and creating office hours within Canvas.

Setting up Teams Meetings in Canvas (One Time per Canvas Course)

Begin by enabling Microsoft Education LTI synchronization in your Canvas course settings. Open your Canvas course and navigate to Settings, then select the Integrations tab. Toggle on the Microsoft Sync and click on Sync Now. Allow a few minutes for the process to complete.
.Next, add Microsoft Education LTI to the course navigation menu. Open your Canvas course, go to Settings and select the Navigation tab. Drag and drop "Microsoft Teams meetings" from the bottom to the top "enabled" section, then click Save.

Scheduling a Teams Meeting with Students
.
Open your Canvas course and select Microsoft Education LTI.
In the Microsoft 365 apps window, click Meetings.
In the top-right corner of the Meetings window, select New Meeting.
Enter meeting details such as Title, Attendees, Date/Time, and recurrence options.
(Optional) Adjust meeting settings to automatically record class sessions.

How to Join a Teams Meeting in Canvas
Open your Canvas course and select Microsoft Education LTI from the global navigation menu.
On the Microsoft Education page, click Meetings. Your upcoming meetings will appear.
Find your meeting and click Join to attend.
When the meeting ends, click the Leave drop-down arrow and select End meeting to close the session for all participants.

Access and Embed Recordings in Canvas
Record your Teams meeting.
Open your Canvas course.
Select the Microsoft Education LTI tool located above the RCE.
Save and publish the page to make the recording available to students.

Using Breakout Rooms in Canvas
Start your meeting in Microsoft Teams.
Click the Breakout Rooms icon in the meeting toolbar.
Select the number of rooms you would like to create.
Assign participants automatically or manually.
Click Start rooms to begin the breakout sessions.

Viewing Attendance in Teams Meetings
Open your Teams calendar and select the meeting.
At the top of the meeting window, click Attendance. The attendee list will appear.
To download the full list, select Download to export it as an Excel spreadsheet.

Creating Office Hours Using Teams Meetings in Canvas
Open the Teams Meeting Calendar
Click + New Meeting in the upper-right corner.
Enter Meeting Details such as title, date/time and ensure the Online meeting option is turned on.
Set Recurrence to match your office hours schedule (e.g., weekly on Tuesday).
Enable the Lobby Feature to control when students can enter the meeting.
Click Save to finalize the setup.
Copy the meeting link and share it with students via your syllabus, Canvas announcement, or another preferred method.

Recording a Lecture Using Teams in Canvas
Open your Teams Calendar and select Meet Now.
Begin your meeting and click Start Recording.
During the session, you can share your screen and present PowerPoint slides to enhance your lecture.
