.
What is happening with Canvas?
Canvas was unavailable the evening of May 7, 2026, from approximately 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. (EDT), due to a security-related incident affecting the vendor’s system. The University is actively working with Canvas and information security professionals to understand the issue and specific impacts to our institution.
Is my personal information or coursework affected?
At this time, we have no confirmed information indicating that individual student data has been compromised. The University will share verified updates if more information becomes available.
Do I need to take any action right now?
No. There is no immediate action required from students at this time.
Please do not use unofficial platforms or submit coursework through alternative tools unless you receive explicit instructions from your instructor or the University.
How will classes, exams, or assignments be handled?
The University understands that this disruption comes during the week of final examinations. At this time, students who were unable to submit assignments or complete final exams should work directly with their instructors on the next steps.
Will deadlines, exams, or grading be adjusted?
At this time, any rescheduled coursework, make-up exams, and final assignment due dates will be communicated directly by your instructor or discussed with your instructor on a case-by-case basis.
How will I receive updates?
All updates will be shared through official University communication channels, such as:
University email
Official website announcements
Announcements posted on ithelp.stjohns.edu
Please avoid relying on social media or unofficial sources for information.

Can I use personal tools (Google Classroom, another email account, other messaging apps) to submit work?

Avoid speculative or unofficial information
Take care of yourself. We recognize this is a stressful time
