If your St. John’s University issued / managed laptop is ever lost or stolen, as soon as you realize the laptop is no longer in your possession, it is your responsibility to notify the local police officials, as well as St. John’s University Public Safety.
Examples:
If the device was lost / stolen in the airport, TSA must be notified
If the device was lost / stolen in New York City, that specific NYPD precinct needs to be notified.
If the device was lost / stolen abroad, that country's/ town's police department must be notified.
Public Safety will require that a police report is filed. Once Public Safety has received the necessary information form you, they will notify IT.
Once IT receives the report of the stolen device from Public Safety, the following will occur:
IT will attempt to locate the device remotely.
IT will attempt to lock/ erase the device remotely so that any data is not able to be stolen.

IT will prepare replacement laptop for you.
Employees/ Faculty: IT will notify the department of any fees have occured due to the loss/theft of university property.
Students: Must bring the Lost- Stolen Payment Satisfaction Memo for processing to Bursar. This can be picked up from the Laptop Support Center which will state the cost of the replacement device. Once payment is made replacement can be issued to student.
