The Microsoft Teams classes LTI creates a Teams Class for you inside of Microsoft Teams, automatically connecting and syncing your Canvas roster for you. The Teams Class can be an excellent resource for communicating, facilitating discussions, sharing files, and more!

How do I add this LTI to my Course Navigation Menu?

Before you begin, please make sure you have enabled Microsoft Sync. If you are unfamiliar with this process, please see our help article How do I enable Microsoft Teams Sync in my Canvas course? (linked).

1. Open your course in Canvas.

2. Go to Settings and select the Navigation tab.

3. Drag and drop the “Microsoft Teams classes” item from the bottom section to the top “enabled” section and select “Save” when done.

4. Note that Microsoft Teams classes should appear in the course navigation at the selected spot.

5. Either in a new tab of your browser or using the Desktop app, open Microsoft Teams.

6. You may receive a notification from “Microsoft-Teams-Sync-for-Canvas” alerting you that you have been added to a Teams class. Opening this notification will show you a blank page for your new Teams class, with a banner that is prompting you to Activate the class. Click Activate.

   1. The “Activate” button should appear in Teams instantaneously, if following the steps above correctly. If you enabled the Microsoft Sync successfully but you do not get the “Activate” message in Teams as indicated in Step 6 within 1-2 hours, please reach out to St. John’s University IT and open a ticket by going to https://ithelp.stjohns.edu or call 718-990-5000 so that we can investigate the issue with Microsoft Support.

6. When you see a message that says “Your class team is now activated,” you are good to go.
