Microsoft Teams is a messaging app that facilitates phone conversations, video chats, and virtual presentations. It serves as a platform where users can easily access meetings, notes, and files, enhancing teamwork and productivity. This document provides instructions on how to conduct, record, access and set up Teams meetings in a course.

Setting up Microsoft Teams


Teams can be downloaded to your computer. To begin, go to signon.stjohns.edu and enter your account information. Click on the Office 365 tile on your My Apps page. Click on the App launcher and select the MS Teams icon. In the new window, click on the ellipsis (three dots) in the upper right corner and click on download.

Conducting a Class Using Teams Meetings

To conduct class using Teams Meetings, open Teams. Navigate to the Calendar and click + New meeting. Finally, add a title, participants to the attendee field, set the date and time and click Send.

Recording a Class Using Teams Meetings

You can record your Teams meeting during a meeting or set your meeting to record atomically. If you have already created your meeting, access your meeting in the Teams calendar. Next, on the upper right hand corner of the meeting click on Meeting options. In the meeting option window, scroll down and locate Record and Transcribe. Toggle this feature on. Finally, select Save. If you are currently in a meeting and wish to record, select More on the upper right hand corner of your meeting window. Select Record and transcribe at the top of the drop down window.

Recording a Lecture Using Teams Meetings

To document a lecture using Teams, the Meet now feature allows you to record yourself while presenting documentation. Simply start the meeting, then in the meeting controls, click More actions (the three dots), and select Start recording. Teams allows you to share PowerPoints, Excel and Word documents with ease.

Accessing my Recording in Teams

Once you have recorded a lecture or meeting, Teams meeting recordings are saved to the meeting organizer's OneDrive. To locate your recording, open Teams and click on the OneDrive tab. Locate and select My files. Within the My files folder, select Recordings. Your recordings can also be accessed in your Teams calendar. To locate your recording, open Teams and click on the Calendar tab. Locate and click on the meeting. Beneath Show meeting info, click on your recording.

Using Breakout Rooms in Teams

Please note that this feature is only available in the desktop version of Teams. If you wish to set up Breakout Rooms before your Teams meeting. Locate your meeting in Teams calendar. At the top of the meeting window, locate and select Breakout Rooms. Manage the number of Breakout Rooms, manually or automatically assign attendees and assign additional presenters to manage each Breakout Room.
