St. John's University uses Okta authentication to manage and secure access to our Student Information System and other web applications. You will need to activate your account, create a strong password, and set up multifactor authentication (MFA) to sign in. It is recommended that you complete the steps for authentication using Okta Verify as well as Phone - SMS or Voice Call.
Please follow the steps below.
You will receive a welcome email with an activation link to the personal email address that you used to apply to the University. You must click on the Activate Okta Account button to activate your account. Your username, which is your email address, and security token will be listed underneath the activation box.

You will need your University ID number (X number or A number) to complete your temporary password. For help locating your ID number, please see: How do I find my University ID number?

Once you click on the Activation Link:
You will be taken to a page to set up your security methods. Okta Verify and Phone Verification are methods that will be used to access your account.

Please download and install the Okta Verify App from your mobile device’s app store.
Okta Verify for Android - Google Play Store or Okta Verify for iOS

Use the provided QR code to activate.

Okta Verify setup process will begin.
Once scanned, the account will be registered with Okta. The following settings will appear, depending on your device (Android or iOS):

Tap the back arrow to return to the screen. Then, click Done.

After Okta Verify is connected, you will be required to set up a security question and answer.

Choose a security question, or create your own.
This question will be required to have this answer should you ever need to initiate a password reset..

To confirm the security question, you will receive a prompt for MFA. Click on the “Send Push” button to proceed.

After confirming your MFA, you will be prompted to set up a Phone connection. A phone connection is also required for any future password resets. Click on the Set up button. On the setup page, enter your phone number. Then, click “Receive a code via SMS.”

At this point, you will be prompted to enter in your temporary password.
You will need to know your University ID number, as well as the token that is provided to you in the welcome email. If you need help locating your ID number, please see: How do I locate my University ID number?

After successfully entering in your temporary password, you will be prompted to create a new one that you will remember. Create a complex password that meets the requirements listed. Re-enter the password to confirm. Then, click Change Password.

* Please note that for St. John’s University employees, faculty, or students, this email address and password combination will be the same credentials that you will use to access other University resources, including Campus Wi-Fi, Classroom computers, Connect App, Microsoft Office Account, etc.
